Floor cleaning hasn’t been the most entertaining part of house cleaning lately, but it’s still an important step towards keeping your house as tidy & clean as you’d want it.

Moreover, despite the fact that there are hundreds of floor types to choose from, brick floors provide a durable & long-lasting option, therefore, it’s essential to know how to clean brick floors.

As Cleaners Advisor, we’ll help you with the best guides towards maintaining your brick floors, by providing the reasoning behind such a guide, and the detailed way to do it, without any extra costs.

Why You Should Know How to Clean Brick Floors?

Brick floors can’t be easily destroyed or broken, but they can be damaged by chemicals burning through the surface, therefore, you’ll need to keep the surface clean as long as you can.

Moreover, the grout lines between brick floors should be cleaned periodically, as failing to do so will create holes along the way of the grout lines, damaging them and opening holes towards the roots of brick floors.

Elephant in the Room: How to Clean Brick Floors

Before proceeding to know How to Clean Brick Floors, we should understand what brick floors consist of.

The brick flooring is made of 2 main components, the bricks themselves, and the grout lines connecting them together.

For the reasons explained earlier, both are important, both should be cleaned periodically, and both should be taken care of.

However, cleaning the tough & durable bricks is easier than the narrower & more susceptible grout lines.

Before diving deep into the cleaning methods of both parts, you should always sweep, vacuum, or dry mop the brick floors before starting, to get rid of visible dirt & larger debris.

Let’s start with the easier part, how to clean brick floors.

Brick Floors Cleaning

Right after sweeping or vacuuming, you have to create a cleaning mixture powerful enough to kill whatever small invisible particles can be found there on the floor.

You have a handful of options, but my two favorites are:

  1. ½ cup of white vinegar and a 1-liter of warm water.
  2. 1.5 spoon baking soda mixed with 1 gallon of water.

Create the mixture, put it into a large bucket of water, and then fetch a microfiber mop.

Some would argue that sponge mops work better on brick floors, but I beg to differ, especially on rougher surfaces.

Therefore, dip the microfiber mop into the bucket for 2-3 seconds, then get to business.

Back-and-forth cleaning motion is proven effective on both the brick floors and the grout lines.

A dry mop can be used to dry the mixture of the floors.

You’re good to go!

Grout Lines Cleaning

I don’t want to ask you to remove the grout and re-install it, that’s the last-case scenario, in case you have not been taking care of the grout lines at all.

Therefore, you’ll have to take care of the grout lines, in case the daily/periodically cleaning doesn’t work for you.

Go for a cleansing agent, use it directly on the grout lines, and with a scrub brush, go at it.

This shall provide another cleaning step on the grout, adding another protection layer.

Moreover, if you have the money & the time, you can try sealing the brick floors on yearly basis.

Steam Cleaners as an option

I’ve surfed through tens and tens of helpful uses of a steam cleaner, this adds to them.

You can use steam cleaners to deep clean the brick floors alongside the grout lines.

It can perform well on the crevices, the dust, and the tiny holes.

Steam Cleaners are a perfect fit, however, they aren’t as budget-friendly as we’d like our Cleaners Advisor guides would be.

How often to Clean Brick Floors

Cleaning brick floors isn’t a hard task, therefore, carrying it out more often doesn’t either hurt you or damage the brick floors.

If you sweep and vacuum the floor every other day, I suppose a weekly cleaning of the brick floors will do the job perfectly.

Moreover, sealing the grout lines can be done on yearly basis, to make sure it’s maintained as well as you’d want it, so it can stay durable and long-lasting option, instead of needing to replace it or re-install it.
