Have you ever noticed a strange water shooting done by your shower head out of nowhere? Maybe it’s just dirty and needs a deep cleaning.

But, the shower cleans us, so it should be able to clean itself, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t, and you’ll have to clean it constantly.

I love the white vinegar and how I can use it in different cleaning chores, but if you don’t stand the smell or you just ran out of vinegar, this guide will show you how to clean shower head without vinegar.

By the end of this Cleaners Advisor Guide, you’ll be able to choose between 3 options for cleaning shower head without vinegar, and those options are as economical as you’d like.

Why You Should Know How to Clean Shower Head Without Vinegar

Many would just forget to take care of their showerheads and proceed to take baths regardless of how clean those heads are.

That shouldn’t be the case, as knowing How to Clean Shower Head Without Vinegar improves water pressure, improves your bath experience, and provides great health improvements too.

How so? Showerheads live in a humid and wet environment, which means that without constant or periodic cleaning, they can hold mold & bacteria in no time.

Moreover, if the water used in the bath isn’t as clean as you’d want it to be, mineral deposits can also clog the showerhead, to a point where it may stop working at all.

Whilst vinegar could provide an irritating smell, the following options are also great, and have little-to-know side effects.

Following are the 3 best options on how to clean shower head without vinegar

  1. Baking Soda.
  2. Lemon Juice.
  3. Coke.

1. Baking Soda

For this cleaning method, you’ll need to create a thick paste of baking soda with warm water.

There isn’t a formula in which the paste is the best, as long as it’s thick enough to be used easily.

Creating the best amount of paste will come with experience once you do it multiple times, depending on the size of your shower head too.

Start by removing the showerhead, and covering it with the thick baking soda paste while wearing rubber gloves if possible.

Leave it there for half an hour, letting the baking soda do its work.

Remove the baking soda paste with your hand after using the head-less shower water on the showerhead.

Now, you’re good to go, check the progress by re-installing the showerhead and opening the shower water. Enjoy the normal & clean water flow.

2. Lemon

If you’re more into natural chemical solutions instead of industrial ones, the lemon juice can be of good use for you in your path to know how to clean shower head without vinegar.

Lemon Juice contains natural chemicals and I’ve already used it on my showerhead, and the results were just WOW!

Start by removing the showerhead, and creating a cup of 200ml. of lemon juice mixed with another 200ml. of warm water.

The fresher the lemons, the better the solution.

Put the showerhead inside a transparent plastic bag, pour the solution into the bag, and let it soak for half an hour.

After that, just rinse the showerhead, and use a soft brush to remove any leftovers that the running water couldn’t rinse off.

Enjoy the clean shower head and the fresh smell the lemon produced.

3. Coke

Coke can also act the same way the lemon did, and the process is similar too.

Coke isn’t, however, a natural chemical you can use, but it’s effective nonetheless.

Start by pouring enough coke into a plastic bag, and insert the shower head there too.

Leave it for 20-30 minutes max, and then remove the showerhead from the bag.

Get to rinsing the showerhead with warm water, and you may use a soft brush to remove cola residing there.

You’re good to go, re-install and enjoy your clean shower.

How Often Should I Clean My Showerhead?

I would advise you to clean your shower head on weekly basis.

But this couldn’t be enough if you’d want it to last for long without the need to purchase a replacement, then you’ll need a thorough cleaning once a month.

Additionally, if your water is salty, or contains minerals of any sort, you’d need to increase the cleaning frequency, to make sure you’re keeping up with the mineral deposits residing in the showerhead constantly.
